Generation plastic: credit cards to the conquest of young

The major institutions increased attention to the portfolio of products aimed at young people and also in Italy – in the wake of what is happening in the U.S. – was created in recent years an innovative range of tools specifically targeted to this important customer segment.
The fifth volume of the Observatory of credit cards, developed by CRIF Decision Solutions in collaboration with GfK Eurisko Assofin and has dedicated his monograph deepening financing instruments – especially to credit cards – reserved for young people, belonging approximately the categories “adolescents”, “students and young workers.”
The research investigated the supply of major European and American paid to target young people, both in Italy and abroad.
The youth is a player on the segment of interest. Acquire a customer in the early stages of its “ life”, in fact, provides the institution can create with it a relationship of trust and education, a relationship which, if well managed, can become profitable and generate value for the medium to term.
According to figures released by VISA, published in Teens and Credit (edited by Jennifer Delcamp) in 2006 in the U.S. on 50.4% of the costs incurred by consumers between 18 and 24 years was made through payments by credit card or debt. That value is growing so much that VISA has coined for the young American clientele the name of Generation Plastic Janu P.
Analysis of the products offered by lenders is clear the of recent years to introduce a series of programs specifically dedicated to younger customers (especially students), identified as an extremely attractive target.
Deals with young people have similar characteristics both in Italy and abroad, because they meet the needs of the typical “young” and that is the “usability” and “flexibility.” The “usability” is the potential use of credit for specific needs such as coverage of the tuition fees and provision of additional services including discounts at local businesses rather than promotions on technology products (Internet, cell phones, computers). For “flexibility” is meant the ability to manage personal , based on ability to repay (for example, longer duration, delays in the commencement of payments and economic conditions facilitated).
There are also different modes of communication of the tender on the basis of levels of segmentation .. It outlines, in fact, three categories of the youth population: the “teenagers”, up to age 17 who still attend the college or high school, the “young”, aged between 18 and 24 who attended the graduate and young adults, aged over 24 who are about to enter the world of work. It is also apparent, both in Italy and abroad, another niche segment, the so called “kids”, that is very young under the age of 12 years to which it is proposed to manage their savings through savings or dedicated.
