The FTSE ended the trading day at 0.36% at 6216 points. The list was driven downward by telephone licenses that have fallen due to the negative performance of the Nasdaq and the failure of the merger between KPN and Telefonica. Vodafone Airtouch, which closed at -3.43% to 267 euros, still weighs the negative assessment of the market’s view that British Telecom has spent too much for the license Umnts English. Good day instead for Freeserve (+7.37%) and Abbey National (+3.54%) who closed up on rumors of a possible takeover. There is also increased insurance company Halifax (+5.4%) after announcing an alliance with BT to offer Wapgratuito to its customers.
